Wayne Van Balen, Director MAIH, RH0027;  B.Bus. (Land Econ.), ADFM, Cert.III Hort.

Wayne Van Balen’s extensive horticultural career began in the 1960’s, as a fourth generation Apple Orchardist in the NSW Southern Highlands. Since then, Wayne has gained considerable knowledge and experience in most areas of the horticultural sciences. In the 1980’s Wayne was Extension officer and Executive Director’s assistant for the NSW Nursery Industry Association.

Wayne’s ability to blend both people skills with extensive plant knowledge has ensured that his talents have always been in demand. Be it in establishing a large production nursery such as Arborglen, providing expert advice to the customers of Swanes nursery or as principal and director of Van Balen Horticultural. His knowledge, skills and approach ensure a successful result from every project he is commissioned to undertake.

Wayne’s qualifications include Certificate in Horticulture at Ryde School of Horticulture, Diploma in Farm management at Sydney University, Bachelor of Business (Land Economics) at University of Western Sydney and property valuation registration.

The knowledge he has attained is considered by his peers to be elite within the horticultural industry. His company, Van Balen Horticultural, is engaged statewide to provide services in design, soft landscaping, plant health, garden restoration, plant establishment, nutrition and garden management.

Wayne’s determination to improve the standards, knowledge and skills within the horticulture profession saw him appointed as National President for the Australian Institute of Horticulture. He served for four years from 2014-2018.  He recently served as Manager of the Registered Horticulturist Continuing Professional Development Programme from 2019-2021.
